On January 12, 2008 I was crowned Miss Norfolk 2008. The Miss Norfolk pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Virginia pageant under the Miss America Organization. Also that night, Jordan Frankos was crowned Junior Miss Norfolk, Brittany Walters was crowned Miss Preteen Norfolk, and Samantha Hardee was crowned Miss Teen Norfolk.
As Miss Norfolk, I have worked diligently throughout the community to promote my platform, "Breast Cancer: It's Not Just Hereditary". Breast cancer awareness is my passion, and the Miss America Organization has provided many avenues for me to impact government policy relating to breast cancer, spread information about the disease, and help raise money towards finding a cure!

The Miss VirginiaPageant is a scholarship pageant, and each year scholarship dollars are given to deserving young women from all over the state who participate in local pageants and the state pageant.
The official platform of the Miss Virginia Organization is "Right Decisions, Right Now", a youth smoking prevention program sponsored by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company that adresses two key audiences:
The program was first developed in 1991. Lifetime Learning Systems Inc., along with other independent experts, assisted with the development.
What is the Miss America Organization?
The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well.
The official platform of the Miss America Organization is the "Children's Miracle Network", which is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Each year the 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Children's Miracle Network has grown dramatically since its founding in 1983, from a televised fund raiser in a small studio to one of the world’s leading children’s charities helping 17 million kids each year.
The Children's Miracle Network hospitals are there 24 hours a day to help kids of every age and background overcome every imaginable disease and injury—from asthma and broken bones to cancer, heart defects, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy and serious injuries. These children’s hospitals are also on the front lines of preventing disease and injury through research, education and outreach programs that keep millions of kids out of the hospital each year.
